Please join us for a discussion about the state of professional licensing for geologists in NYS.  We will have a short presentation by Peter Smith (NYSCPG) and Gene Florentino (BAPG & NYSCPG) followed by an open discussion of questions and answers. Pizza, wings, and pop will be included and a cash bar will be open throughout the event.  Please come and learn why professional licensing is so important to geologists and NYS. Link to Flyer


Bio of Panel Leaders  - Peter Smith

Pete Smith is a Staff Geologist in the Mining and Energy Division of RESPEC Engineering and Services, Rapid City, South Dakota. He received his Bachelor of Science (1982) in Geology and Master of Science (2010) in Education from The College at Brockport State University of New York.  At RESPEC, Pete is responsible for field work in support of underground salt mines and brine caverns.  With over 25 years of experience in western NY, he has worked for various environmental and geotechnical firms including H&A, Rochester Drilling, Conestoga-Rovers, AFI Environmental and Stantec (formerly Sear-Brown).  Pete was one of the founding members of the New York State Council of Professional Geologists (NYSCPG) in 1996 and is currently the Chairman of the Fundraising Committee.  He can be contacted through RESPEC corporate headquarters (www.respec.com), by telephone (585.943.3136), or email (Pete.Smith@respec.com).


Gene Florentino

Mr. Florentino is a principal geologist at Ecology and Environment, Inc.’s headquarters in Lancaster NY. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Geology at the State College of New York at Oneonta in 1983, and a Master of Science degree in Geology at the University of Akron Ohio in 1985.

Mr. Florentino was President of BAPG in 1999, and served on the board between 1998 and 2003. He is a Licensed Professional Geologist in the state of Pennsylvania, and a member of the New York State Council of Professional Geologists (NYSCPG). Mr. Florentino has been on the NYSCPG Board since 2003.
